Sd Kfz 251/1 Ausf.d - WW2 German Half Track
The Sd Kfz 251/1 was a Schützenpanzerwagen or standard personnel carrier, the first of the 23 variants of the Sd Kfz 251 armoured vehicles.
The Sd Kfz 251s were one of the most widely used German Half Track Armoured Personnel Carriers during World War 2, with 15000+ vehicles manufactured during this time. Half tracks were popular vehicle types during WWII with their off-road tank-like build and handling and steering capability of wheeled military vehicles.
Within the Sd Kfz 251/1 half track there were different sub-variants, with the Ausf.d variant having Falke infrared imaging for driver, and either an MG 42 or MG 34 Machine gun operator.
The Sd Kfz 251s were in service between 1939-1945, and used by various countries in addition to Germany. Their capacity was 2 crew members and 10 passengers, an ideal battle transport vehicle for infantry units.
With its Maybach HL42 6 cylinder petrol engine capable of producing 100 horsepower, it could reach speeds of 52.5 km/h (32.6 mph). It was commonly referred to as Hanomag by Germans due to its designer, the Hanomag company.
