There are detailed painting instructions for model builders to achieve a realistic representation of the original fighter jet. Boeing FA-18F Super Hornet Fighter Jet

The Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet is an upgraded version of the F/A-18C/D Hornet. The Hornets were based on early versions of McDonald Douglas’ Hornet 2000 from the 1980s. The Super Hornets 18F along with the 18E are considered multi-role jet fighters with twin engines. This means they can be used for various military purposes including strike missions and reconnaissance. With a larger airframe and fuselage, the jet fighter is able to carry more fuel, and also stock both air to air and air to ground weapons.

  • F/A-18E/F airframe extended 860 mm [the increase in space to accommodate the improved avionics and carry more fuel]
  • Wing area increased by 25%
  • GE's F414 engine use gives 35% thrust increase
  • F/A-18E/F “Back” Capacity of up to 4,100 kg
  • Super Hornet brought into the U.S. Navy in 1999 and since 2006 has replaced F-14 “Tomcat” Fighters

Initially made by Boeing for the US Navy, the Hornet was acquired by the Royal Australian Air Force to replace its ageing strike aircrafts. The RAAF F-18 Super Hornets received Financial Operational Capability in December 2012 and are based at RAAF Base Amberley in Queensland at Number 1 Squadron.
