Container Ship Colombo Express
The COLOMBO EXPRESS was a large container ship operated by Hapag-Lloyd, a major German shipping company. Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea, it was launched in 2005 and was the largest container ship in the world at that time. This massive cargo ship had a length overall of approximately 335 metres, beam of 43 metres and could contain 8,749 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world's largest container shipping companies, operates the COLOMBO EXPRESS as part of its fleet aimed at international trade and logistics. It was the first of 8 proposed class ships under the Colombo Express name and is so named after Colombo, the largest city in Sri Lanka.
